Recently, we went to meet the MP to request a higher chances in balloting of flats. MP wrote letter to HDB to hope they will look into our application. In the end HDB, replied us back a mail that they are unable to advance our queue number.

That is not the main point!!! He mentioned that we give up our chances during our first 2 BTO. But they do not mentioned how far our queue number is away from the number of units available. 600 people getting the queue no in front of us give up their chances because they left only low level unit. Being the 601 to up the chances is also consider as a sin. No matter far your queue number is away from the units available, as long you turn down the appointment you have wasted your chance.

HDB replied that either you continue to wait or buy from open market. With Singapore total population of about 5 million and recent years more and more PR and foreigner coming in the market for for housing is booming. A young couple like us, how can we afford to give up front cash of min 20k(market rate), basic renovation of the house and monthly instalment.

So our only choice is to wait... Now I really know why Singaporean getting married at older age. This is because WE NEED TO WAIT FOR A CHANCE TO SELECT A UNIT OF OUR LIKINGS AND WAIT FOR IT TO BUILD.

So lets assume that a couple been together for 4years and seriously consider to get married after they have a house of their own and took them 2years for them to wait and select a unit of their likings and another 4years for it to build. So total they took 10year before they can get married.

Of course, they can shorten the time by either shorter dating period or better luck. However, there are higher chances of divorce rate if they have shorter dating period. If the couple can really survive the 'waiting' period, they will get married, if not they will breakup before the unit come.
